Tai Chi: Silk-Reeling Exercises (workout)
Marlon Bishop, Gold Medal Competitor in Taiji, North America and China
Silk-Reeling Exercises is translated as “Chan Si Gong” in Chinese. “Gong” in Chinese means work, skill or exercises (drills). Silk-Reeling Exercises (SRE) in Taiji is a set of repetitive spiral movement exercises with emphasis on the ground connection, waist connection, knee alignment, and opening and closing of joints. These continuous spiral movements are the basic components and foundation of Taijiquan. The exercises will increase the mobility and flexibility of body joints and relax the muscles and tendons of the practitioner. (Suggest continuing through next Tai Chi Workshop) Level: Beginner

Inversions (workout)
Edwina Ferro, Certified Yoga Instructor
Inversions are whenever your head is below your heart. Learn healthy inversions in this inversion-focused class. Explore yoga postures that will prepare you for confident, safe inversions. Discover inversions that are wonderfully cooling and relaxing, and ones that are more challenging and stamina building. Inversions are known to be the “street cleaning” postures in yoga and any form of inversion is cleansing, detoxing, and revitalizing. By clearing the waste in your body, you’re improving the flow of the lymphatic fluid that keeps the disease-fighting capabilities of your body healthy. The poses we will be exploring are also good for relaxing your nervous system, regulating energy levels, and simply restoring your body. Some yoga experience preferred. Level: Advanced

Take A Breath: An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation (workshop)
Rabbi Lavey Derby, PJCC Director of Jewish Life and Dedicated Meditator

Tai Chi: Taiji Primary Energies (workout)
(Suggest attending first Tai Chi session at 12:00 pm)
Marlon Bishop, Gold Medal Competitor in Taiji, North America and China
Taiji Primary Energies is a class that will teach the basics of breathing, stepping and shifting your balance during Taiji practice. There are eight primary energies in Taijiquan, which are Peng (expanding outward), Lu (yielding/neutralizing), Ji (pressing center), An (pressing downward), Cai (grabbing), Zhou (elbowing), Lie (splitting), and Kao (ramming). The Primary Energies exercises consist of two forms of four energies each, a generic way of practicing the movements of Taiji without having to memorize the regular long form. This course is for those looking for an introduction to balance and whole body coordination, and those simply looking for mind-body exercise. Level: Beginner

Hip Openers (workout)
Gloria Bauman, Certified Yoga Instructor
People today spend 90% of their day sitting: at the breakfast table, in the car on the way to work, behind a desk, on the couch watching TV. All this sitting causes the hips to tighten up. In this yoga workshop you will practice hip-opening poses that will lead to creating supple hips. Supple hips have been associated with easing back pain, improving gait agility, and circulation of the blood throughout your legs. It is also believed when you have supple hips, your prana, or energy, will flow better throughout your body. Level: All
