כיתות התיכון מיועדות לתלמידי כיתות ט’ עד י”ב שמעוניינים לחזק ולפתח את כישורי השפה שלהם בעברית, לזכות בקרדיט לתיכון עבור דרישות “קורס שפה זרה”, ולהכין עצמם לבחינת ה- SAT II בעברית. השיבוץ בכיתות מתבסס על מבחן הערכת תלמיד שעוברים התלמידים עם הרשמתם לבית הספר.
קולג’ים שונים ברחבי ארה”ב דורשים מינימום שנתיים (ופעמים רבות שלוש) שנות לימוד בתיכון של שפה זרה (אותה השפה) כדי לראות שתלמיד רכש מיומנות גבוהה של השפה. בגד כפת הוכר כקורס עברית כשפה זרה על ידי מחוזות לימוד רבים בעמק הסיליקון, ומעניק את נקודות הקרדיט הנדרשות בשיתוף פעולה עם בית הספר התיכון “קהילה”. כחלק ממערכת הדרישות לקבלת הקרדיט, נדרשות 100 שעות לימוד שנתיות המתחלקות על פני שיעורים שבועיים בני שלוש שעות. התיכוניסטים ישתתפו באירועי תרבות וקהילה המהווים העשרה והשלמה לשעות הנדרשות. בתחילת השנה יוצגו לתלמידים האפשרויות השונות על מנת שיוכלו לתכנן את פעילויות ההעשרה בהתאם לתחומי העניין שלהם. אירועים כלל בית ספריים של בית הספר, כמו גם טקסי יום העצמאות ויום הזיכרון, הם דוגמאות לאירועים בהם מוזמנים התלמידים להשתתף.
בגד כפת מציע כיתות תיכון ברמות שונות. אנו מקבצים את התלמידים לפי רמות בכיתות השונות ובהתאם בוחרים את חומרי הלימוד המתאימים להם. תוכנית הלימודים מבוססת על תוכנית נט”ע (נוער לטובת העברית), וכוללת תוכניות לימודים חדישות, מעודכנות ומבוססת על מקורות שנבחרו בקפידה. נט”ע היא תוכנית שעוצבה במיוחד עבור תלמידים בכיתות החטיבה והתיכון. התוכנית מטפחת את כל ההיבטים של הלשון העברית – דקדוק ותוכן, שיחות וספרות, שירה ומידע עובדתי, תרגילים ותרגולים, נושאים לדיון תוסס, שירים ודילמות מוסריות, כתיבת מטלות וקריאה עצמאית, אירועים עכשוויים וטקסטים מקראיים.
“בשביל העברית” מבית נט”ע מציעה חומרים לכל הרמות בעברית, החל בספר “בשביל העברית 1” לרמת המתחילים ועד “בשביל העברית 5” לרמת המתקדמים ועוד חומרי לימוד נוספים מתקדמים יותר. החומרים מציגים בפני התלמידים את כל התקופות ההיסטוריות: תקופת המקרא, הרבנית, ימי הביניים, תקופת ההשכלה ונאורות והתקופה המודרנית. תכנית הלימודים של “בשביל העברית” מעודדת אינטראקציה דינמית מתמשכת בין תוכן, בלשנות ופיתוח מיומנויות. התכנית מציעה מגוון רחב של ז’אנרים – פרוזה ושירה, שיחות, ראיונות, מאמרים, רשימות, שאלונים ועוד; הזדמנויות להשתלט על ארבע מיומנויות השפה – קריאה, כתיבה, הקשבה ודיבור; וכן התקדמות רציפה של דקדוק ובלשנות. היכולת הלשונית הפעילה נבנית בהדרגה לאורך התקדמות רצופה של אורך ומורכבות גוברת של טקסטים, אוצר מילים עשיר ומורכבות תחבירית רבה יותר.
אנו משלבים טכנולוגיה המשפרת ותומכת בלמידה עם הקלטות אודיו, טכנולוגיה אינטראקטיבית, סרטים דוקומנטריים ועוד. כאשר התלמידים מדברים, קוראים, כותבים ומקשיבים לעברית מדוברת, הם נתקלים בנקודות מבט חדשות על חיי היומיום בישראל, המסורת וההיסטוריה היהודית והידע העולמי.
מטרת תוכנית הלימודים לפתח את כישורי השפה העברית בכל מימדי השפה: קריאה, דיבור, כתיבה, הבנת השפה תוך הדגשת היבטים תרבותיים ישראליים באמצעות מגוון טקסטים ונושאים הקרובים לעולמם של התלמידים. כדי להשיג זאת, העקרונות המנחים אותנו הם:
הלימודים יתקיימו בשפה העברית בלבד, תוך ניצול אסטרטגיות למידה מוכרות לתלמידים. *
התוכנית פועלת בשני מסלולים מקבילים: כשירות תקשורתית וכשירות לשונית. הכשירות התקשורתית היא להבין וליצור משפטים ומבעים (משפטים מורכבים) תקינים ומובנים, לבטא רעיון ולדעת לנמק בחירה או עקרון, לחוות עמדה ולתאר רגשות ולדעת כיצד להשתמש בשפה בדרך הולמת את הנסיבות. והכשירות הלשונית היא הכרות עם סוגות כתיבה, מגוון טקסטים, יכולת להבין ולהפיק סוגים שונים של טקסטים, הרחבת אוצר מילים, שכלול הבעה בכתב ובעל פה, שימוש תקין בלשון – בהגייה, בכתיב, במשמעות, בנטייה, בתצורה ובתחביר. שני המסלולים תומכים זה בזה תוך כדי התקדמות התלמיד לכדי פיתוח הכשירות האוריינית. *
הלמידה בשני המסלולים תעשה בתוך הקשר, בדרך פונקציונאלית, באמצעות טקסטים המאורגנים בנושאים מרכזיים, תוך שימוש באמצעי המחשה ובהקפדה על גיוון. כדי לפתח כשירות אוריינית כתבו במשרד החינוך: “יצירת נגישות אל טקסטים הדבורים והכתובים בתחומי דעת שונים ולצרכים חברתיים, לימודיים ותקשורתיים מגוונים. הידע הלשוני, הכולל ידע על השפה וידע על דפוסי השיח, הוא חלק בלתי נפרד מהמטען התרבותי שאדם צריך לשאת באמתחתו”. תלמידי התיכון יכולים להחסיר עד שני שיעורים בכל אחד משני הסמסטרים. באחריות הסטודנט להגיע לשיעורי השלמה בעת הצורך. סטודנט שיחסיר יותר משני שיעורי במהלך סמסטר לא יוכל לסיים את הקורס ולקבל ציון או גיליון הציונים.
Beged Kefet’s high school classes are designed for ninth through twelfth grade students who want to strengthen their Hebrew language skills, earn high school credit to fulfill the foreign language requirement (which is also required by some collegiate institutions), and prepare themselves for the SAT II in Hebrew. Placement in the appropriate level is determined after staff evaluation.
Colleges throughout the United States require a minimum of two years (and often three of the same language) of foreign language study in high school to ensure that a student has acquired a high level of language proficiency. Beged Kefet has been recognized as a foreign language course by many Silicon Valley school districts, and provides the necessary credit points in cooperation with Kehillah High School. Students are required to take 100 hours of study per year, accumulated through weekly three-hour lessons. To complete the required hours of study, at the beginning of the year, students will be presented with various topics to choose from so that they can plan their enrichment activities according to their interests. All school events, such as Independence Day and Memorial Day ceremonies, are examples of events in which students are invited to participate and attend.
Beged Kefet offers high school classes at various levels. We group students based on ability and accordingly select the appropriate study materials. The curriculum is based on the NETA program, a Hebrew acronym for Youth for the Benefit of Hebrew, and includes updated curricula based on carefully chosen sources. The program, which was created for secondary grade students, cultivates all aspects of Hebrew language learning—grammar and content, conversations and literature, poetry and factual information, exercises and practice and topics for lively discussion, songs and moral dilemmas, writing assignments and independent reading, current events and biblical texts.
Bishvil Ha’Ivrit (For the Hebrew) NETA books offer quality material for all levels of Hebrew, from beginners to advanced. For higher level students, advanced and engaging material is provided. These materials introduce students to Hebrew of all historical periods: biblical, rabbinic, medieval, enlightenment and modern. The program offers a wide range of genres—prose and poetry, conversations, interviews, articles, lists, questionnaires and more. It also provides opportunities to master all four language skills—reading, writing, listening and speaking—as well as continuous progress of grammar and linguistics. Linguistic ability gradually grows through continuous progression in length and complexity of texts, rich vocabulary and more syntactic complexity.
We combine technology that enhances and supports learning with audio recordings, interactive technology, documentary films and more. As students speak, read, write and listen to spoken Hebrew, they encounter varying viewpoints on Israeli daily life, Jewish tradition and history, and general world knowledge. The purpose of our program is to teach and develop the fundamentals of the modern Hebrew language in all four aspects—reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension—while emphasizing Israeli culture through a variety of texts and subjects that are part of the students’ world.
The Mechina class is based on a curriculum developed by NETA. The year-long program intensive helps students acquire reading and writing skills based on content and texts appropriate for high school students. During the first months, students will acquire reading and writing skills while working through online sites during class and at home for homework and assignment completion. As students continue their progress, they will start using the first book within the NETA series, Bishvil Ha’Ivrit (For the Hebrew). For more information, contact Karin Hasin.
High school students can only miss up to two classes during each of the two semesters. It is the student’s responsibility to attend make up classes if needed in coordination with their teacher. Student who misses more than two classes during a semester will not qualify to finish the course and will not get a grade or a transcript.
