Our Safety Commitment

We regularly review and update our policies in consultation with:

  • The American Camping Association (ACA)
  • The San Mateo County Health Department
  • Our PJCC Medical Advisory Task Force
  • The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)
  • The Jewish Community Center Association of North America

This ensures that we implement the best safety measures for the well-being of our campers, staff, and families.

General Health Policy

To keep our camp community healthy, we ask families to keep their child at home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever over 100.0°F (child must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
  • Diarrhea (child must be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
  • Vomiting (child must be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
  • Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
  • Sore throat / Strep throat
  • Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, body aches, fatigue)
  • Excessive sneezing or coughing
  • Unexplained rash or skin condition
  • Ear infection (if untreated by a physician)
  • Lice (child must be completely lice- and nit-free before returning)

If your child develops any of these symptoms at camp, we will contact you for immediate pick-up within 60 minutes.

If Your Camper Becomes Ill at Camp

If a camper starts showing signs of illness:

  • The child will be moved to a designated isolation area under staff supervision.
  • We will call a parent or guardian immediately. If they are unavailable, we will contact the emergency contact.
  • A parent or guardian must be within one hour’s drive of camp in case pickup is necessary.

To return to camp after illness, campers may need:

  • A doctor’s note for communicable diseases
  • To be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication
  • Proof of completed lice treatment, if applicable

Medication at Camp

If your child needs medication during camp hours:

  • All prescription and over-the-counter medications must be in original packaging.
  • A physician’s note is required for all medications.
  • Medications must be given directly to Camp Keff administration—please do not send them in your child’s belongings.
  • A Camp Medication Form must be completed.

If your child has a communicable disease, please notify the camp office so we can take appropriate action while maintaining confidentiality.

Our COVID-19 Protocols

We strongly recommend COVID vaccinations for campers ages five and older. Our team continues to monitor and follow the latest public health guidelines. For the most up-to-date COVID policies, see the graphic below or contact us directly.
