February Swim Tip: Up Your Mental Game

Physical aptitude in any given sport is just half the battle: the other half is mental strength. Former national-level swimmer Olivier Poirier-Leroy shares the top four things you can do each day to polish your mental game and make you a champion in and out of the pool.

Lifeguard of the Month

Nick Moore has been a valued PJCC swim instructor and lifeguard for more than two years. When he isn’t introducing little ones to the joys of swimming, he can be found coaching high schoolers in water polo. Nick loves learning about nutrition and hopes to one day become a registered nutritionist. Whether you see him in the pool, or upstairs in the gym working out, be sure to say hi.

Missed Classes
We do not offer make up classes for missed classes. In some cases, we will honor a doctor’s note if the child was seen by a physician, and will make arrangements for a swim lesson credit.

Swim Lesson Reminders
• Always check in at the table on the pool deck
• Re-usable swim diapers are required for any child that is not toiled-trained.
• Do not forget to pick up your progress report at the end of the month! This will assist you in understanding skills that are proficient versus those skills that should be practiced in order to move to the next level.
• The whirlpool is not a swimming pool. Children may only use the whirlpool weekdays before 8:00 pm and weekends before 5:00 pm. Horseplay is not allowed and the stairs must remain unobstructed so that people can easily enter and exit the whirlpool.

Complimentary Swim Evaluations
Not sure of your class level? Take advantage of a free swim evaluation! Our instructors will meet with your child in the water to assess their swim proficiency and place them in the appropriate level. Call our Aquatics Office to schedule your evaluation today.

Adult Swim Clinic
Our free swim clinic is a great and motivating way for adults to stay in shape and improve their technical swimming skills. The program offers workouts and skill development for both beginning and advanced swimmers. Expertise coaching provides you with a progressively structured workout (including stroke drills) to help you achieve personal goals to increase learning and develop all four competitive strokes: Butterfly, Back, Breast, and Freestyle. If open water training is one of your goals, the Triathlon coaching assists meeting those needs. If you’re aiming toward competitive swimming, you can also accomplish this with the comradery and encouragement of your fellow teammates.
