PJCC Aquatics Newsletter: September 2018

PJCC Aquatics September 2018 Newsletter

 In This Issue:

Upcoming Holidays

Following Labor Day, the Jewish community celebrates the High Holidays, a series of fall holidays that include two of the most important dates on the Jewish calendar: Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the day of repentance). On Rosh Hashanah, it is customary to dip slices of apples in honey to remind us to sample “the sweetness of life.”

As we approach the High Holidays, we wish your family a sweet, healthy, and happy New Year. Shanah Tovah (a good year)!

No Class Dates:

  • Saturday, September 1 – Monday, September 3 (Labor Day)
  • Monday, September 10 – Wednesday (Rosh Hashanah)
  • Tuesday September 18 – Wednesday, September 19 (Yom Kippur)
  • Monday, September 24 (Sukkot)
  • Monday, October 1 (Shemini Atzeret)

Rates reflect reduced number of swim lessons.

Swim for Health: Take the Plunge!

The benefits of swimming far exceed just looking and feeling better. The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is the national governing body for anything related to swimming and recently, they published a report that looked at health and fitness research from around the globe. It found that swimming on a regular basis can reduce heart disease, stroke and type-2 diabetes. In addition, swimming:

  • keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body
  • builds endurance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness
  • helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs
  • tones muscles and builds strength
  • provides an all-over body workout, as nearly all of your muscles are used during swimming

Consider adding swimming to your wellness routine and discover the benefits of a watery workout!

Aquatics Employee of the Month: Deb Chinn

Aquatics Employee of the Month Deb Chinn
One of our most beloved staff members, Deb joined PJCC Aquatics in 2015 shortly after retiring from Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City after 33 years of service.

“Working in Aquatics registration has allowed me the opportunity to meet many new people and also reconnect with those from long ago,” she says. “One of my favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou, who said, ‘People will forget what you said. They will forget what you did. But they will never forget how you made them feel.’ My goal every day is to provide each customer with a positive experience when they come to my window. It warms my heart when people tell me they are grateful for my help.”

The next time you pass the Aquatics registration window, tap on the window and say hi—Deb would love to meet you!

Registration Reminders

All Sessions Start New in September
If you haven’t yet reserved your spot in the new swim session starting in September, please do so before all the spots are filled. Not sure of your class level? Take advantage of a free swim evaluation! Our swim instructors will meet with your child in the water to assess their swim proficiency and place them in the appropriate level. Call our Aquatics Office to schedule your free evaluation today.

Registration Made Easy!

Missed Classes: We do not offer make up classes for missed classes. In some cases, we will honor a doctor’s note if a physician saw the child, and will arrange for a swim lesson credit.
