Volunteer Opportunities

The PJCC relies on volunteers for their help within the community center as well as with our outreach efforts in the community at large. We welcome your participation.

Meet other PJCC supporters, find community… perhaps even pass on the spirit of volunteering to the next generation. We have many fun opportunities for you to make a mark.

Please contact the Volunteer Manager for more information or complete our Volunteer Application.

Your Time and Talents are Priceless

Volunteers Must be 16 Years Old or Older

Volunteer Corps

On the first and third Fridays of the month from 8:30-11:30 am, volunteers are needed to help distribute food to low-income seniors at Foster City Parks and Rec.  For more information, contact 650.378.2780 or msolomon@pjcc.org, or register online.

Garden Service Days

One in four individuals in our community will be at risk of hunger—and our PJCC will be part of the food justice equation. The mission of the PJCC’s Justice Garden is to grow organic produce to help feed local families at LifeMoves. We will also provide social action, learning activities, educational workshops, gardening instruction, and much more. By practicing the Jewish value of repairing the world, tikkun olam, we will literally sow the seeds of justice for people in need.

You can be a part of it by volunteering at one of our Garden Service Days. Sign up!

Volunteer with Children

Reading Tutor

For just one hour a week, you can make a difference by helping a child learn to love reading. In response to the overwhelming number of Bay Area School children reading below grade level, the Jewish Coalition for literacy trains, places, and supports volunteer reading tutors working one to one with students in grades K-3.

The Jewish Coalition for Literacy (JCL) recruits and trains volunteers to become reading tutors in the San Francisco Bay Area’s under-resourced PUBLIC elementary schools. Tutors are matched with a K-3 grade student, and the pair spends the semester or school year developing a strong relationship while building literacy skills. JCL engages our volunteers in tikkun olam, healing the world, and welcomes all members of the community—students, seniors, parents and professionals—to participate in the lives of at-risk children, providing the confidence and the strategies that will enable them to become successful readers. The ability to read is a vital tool to participating in our economic mainstream.

To learn more and register for a training session, go to www.jclread.org or call 415.977.7436.
