California Mahjong is a modern adaptation of traditional Mahjong, blending elements from British, Hong Kong, and Shanghai styles. Unlike American Mahjong, which requires a specific card and has its own set of rules, California Mahjong simplifies the gameplay by eliminating the need for a card. This version emphasizes a balance of skill and luck, making it accessible and enjoyable for both newcomers and experienced players. As our instructor Shelley Williamson describes, “it’s a bit like Gin Rummy meets Yahtzee,” offering a stimulating challenge that also fosters social connections.

Join us for informal Mahjong sessions where you can practice your skills and enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts. These sessions are open to players of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Please note that no instructor will be present during these sessions, so it’s a great opportunity to play at your own pace and style. Remember to bring your current Mahjong card and set.

Drop-in Bunco

Second and Fourth Fridays | 1:30 pm | Free
Bunco is a lively, social dice game that requires no previous experience, making it perfect for newcomers. Played in rounds, the objective is to roll dice and accumulate points, with gameplay that is fast-paced and filled with excitement. It’s a game of pure chance, so everyone has an equal opportunity to win, and it’s a fantastic way to meet new people and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Beginners are always welcome!
