We are heartbroken to share the passing of Tad Taube, a longtime friend, partner, and visionary whose generosity has touched every corner of Jewish life.
Here at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center, we feel his absence deeply. The board and staff of PJCC extend our love and condolences to his wife, Dianne, and to his children, Mark, Paula, Sean, Judd, Travis, and Zakary. We also hold our friends at Taube Philanthropies close in our hearts during this time of mourning.
A Life That Changed Communities
Tad’s story began in Poland and led to an extraordinary journey through business, philanthropy, and Jewish communal leadership. As the founder of Taube Philanthropies and the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture, he dedicated more than four decades to strengthening Jewish identity, education, remembrance, and justice.
His vision and support created lasting institutions and initiatives throughout the Bay Area, Israel, and Poland. One of those is the Taube Center for Jewish Peoplehood at PJCC, which he made possible through his generosity. The Center continues to be a space where Jewish learning, heritage, and community are nurtured every day.
A Personal and Beautiful Gift to PJCC
Another visible part of Tad’s legacy at PJCC is the Grow Justice mural in our Hamlin Garden. This is more than a work of art. It is a living reflection of our community’s values and voices.
More than 745 people came together to design and paint the mural, which highlights key themes of Jewish justice: food justice, environmental care, human dignity, and economic equity. At its heart is the enduring message, “Justice, justice shall you pursue.”
Tad didn’t just fund the mural. He joined us in celebration, stood with us at its unveiling, and shared heartfelt reflections on how shared values and creativity bring communities to life.
“Tad Taube helped us turn vision into reality, not just through his generosity, but through his belief in people, in possibility, and in the Jewish future. His presence lives on in every seed planted, every brushstroke, every act of justice our community pursues,” shared Jordan Shenker, PJCC’s CEO.
Carrying His Legacy Forward
This is a profound loss for PJCC and for the global Jewish community. But in the midst of sorrow, we are also reminded of the responsibility to continue the work he so passionately supported.
At PJCC, we will keep growing the spaces Tad helped build. We will continue to welcome learners, thinkers, artists, and seekers of all ages. We will move forward, holding fast to the values of justice, beauty, and belonging that shaped his life and his legacy.
We invite you to reflect with us, share memories, and take part in the work he helped inspire.
May his memory be a blessing.
