March Swim Tip: Swim Lessons Help Build Confidence

Spring is right around the corner, which means the weather will be warming up and school will be winding down. Is your family prepared for a summer of watery fun in the sun?

Helping your child master new skills is great for their confidence and self-esteem. A child who can swim and is confident in the water is also far less likely to encounter risks when the family is on the beach or by a lake, making for a much safer environment.  PJCC swim lessons are taught in stages so as each new skill is mastered, the student “swims away” with feelings of pride and accomplishment. Children love acquiring new skills and take great pride in their achievements. Success always boosts a child’s self-confidence and makes them eager to take on further challenges; all good preparation for the rigorous of adulthood. Swimming also opens up opportunities for a healthy new hobby that your child can continue to enjoy for life.

Instructor of the Month

An experienced swim instructor with more than 20 years under her belt, Svetlana Doroganich has been with the PJCC for one and a half years, teaching basic aquatic skills to water babies, water wigglers, as well as adults. “I take great satisfaction in helping people conquer their fear of water,” she says. “Learning how to swim opens a world of possibilities for all ages.” Stop and say hello the next time you see Svetlana around the pool.

For account help, please contact the Aquatics Office.

Missed Classes
We do not offer make up classes for missed classes. In some cases, we will honor a doctor’s note if the child was seen by a physician, and will make arrangements for a swim lesson credit.

Swim Lesson Reminders
With the onset of warmer weather, please don’t forget these important rules.

  • Children who are going to spend a prolonged period of time in the water should wear water shoes to protect their tender soles.
  • Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and this includes before and after each class. This means we need you in the water with them!
  • Only “U.S. Coast Guard-approved” flotation devices are allowed. For your convenience, we have several acceptable “puddle jumpers” available for use.  You’ll find them on the indoor pool deck.

Complimentary Swim Evaluations
Not sure of your class level? Take advantage of a free swim evaluation! Our instructors will meet with your child in the water to assess their swim proficiency and place them in the appropriate level. Call our Aquatics Office to schedule your evaluation today.

Free Adult Swim Clinic
Our free swim clinic is a great and motivating way for adults to stay in shape and improve their technical swimming skills. The program offers workouts and skill development for both beginning and advanced swimmers. Expertise coaching provides you with a progressively structured workout (including stroke drills) to help you achieve personal goals to increase learning and develop all four competitive strokes: Butterfly, Back, Breast, and Freestyle. If open water training is one of your goals, the Triathlon coaching assists meeting those needs. If you’re aiming toward competitive swimming, you can also accomplish this with the comradery and encouragement of your fellow teammates.
